A top US government virologist turned whistleblower has accused the Trump administration of failing to tell the truth.

Dr Rick Bright said Americans were 'not as prepared as they could have been' in tackling coronavirus.

Dr Bright once ran the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, the government agency overseeing vaccine efforts.

The Trump administration abruptly removed him from the position last month.

During three hours of giving evidence on Capitol Hill, the government scientist said the US lacks a 'master plan' and gave a stark warning to members of Congress.
