(2020) If you’re on the wrong side of U.S. President Donald Trump you certainly know about it, and right now, the focus of his fury is the World Health Organisation. He accuses the W.H.O. of being China’s lapdog and says it’s responsible for helping the communist regime hide the true extent of the coronavirus disaster. As punishment Trump has withdrawn American funding to the organisation. Australia too has questions about the W.H.O., specifically what it did in China and when? By comparison with the U.S. leader though, our prime minister Scott Morrison is far more diplomatic. He wants a review of the W.H.O’s role, but he’s also proposed the health body be given additional powers, including the right to forcibly enter countries to avoid repeating the COVID-19 disaster. Liz Hayes asks the question – who exactly is the W.H.O? World leaders pledged on Friday to accelerate work on tests, drugs and vaccines against COVID-19 and to share them around the globe, but the United States did not take part in the launch of the World Health Organization (WHO) initiative. Several European leaders, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa were among those who joined a video conference to launch what the WHO had billed as a “landmark collaboration” to fight the pandemic. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the objective at a global pledging effort in early May would be to raise 7.5 billion euros ($8.10 billion) to ramp up work on prevention, diagnostics and treatment. U.S. President Donald Trump has lambasted the WHO as being slow to react to the outbreak and being “China-centric” and announced a suspension of funding. Australia should use the immediate post-COVID-19 period to develop a bigger “high tech, flexible manufacturing industry,” according to former Fortescue CEO Nev Power. Manufacturing used to the bastion of the Australian economy but has declined significantly over the past fifty years. Manufacturing made up nearly 30 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) in the 1960s, however the sector now has slumped to around six per cent of GDP as many businesses move offshore. The federal government has established the COVID-19 Coordination Commission to identify how business, including manufacturing, can thrive in a post-COVID-19 world. Mr Power, who is part of the government’s commission, told Sky News the sector must embrace”high tech, flexible manufacturing that is modern and attracts a sort of investment we need.” “In the early days, post pandemic, we will have a low dollar, disrupted supply chains which create opportunities for local manufacturing and we will have amply supply of labour from people that have been displaced from industries that will take longer to start up,” he said. I think there is an opportunity to retrain people into those roles and for us to take advantage of that time post the virus when there is that demand for local manufacturing.”

President Donald Trump announced during a daily briefing alongside the coronavirus task force on Tuesday that the U.S. is going to be halting funding to the World Health Organization. “Today I’m instructing my administration to halt funding of the World Health Organization while a review is conducted to assess the World Health Organization’s role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus,” Trump said. He criticized WHO over their opposition to his travel restrictions as the coronavirus pandemic began. The president said the halt in funding will occur as the U.S. government conducts a review that will take between 60 to 90 days. Novel coronavirus Live Streaming: Breaking news, world Map and live counter on confirmed cases, recovered cases(COVID-19). I started this live stream on Jan 26th, and since Jan 30th I have been streaming this without stopping. Many people are worried about the coronavirus spreading. For anyone that wants to know the numbers and progression of the worldwide spread of this virus, I offer this live stream. The purpose is not to instill fear or panic, nor is it to necessarily comfort; I just want to present the data to help inform the public of the current situation. At first, I tried to show only official data from governments without any manipulation. But many people wanted to apply an up-to-date format of data to stream. I added a procedure to manually manipulate data with my computer. After seeing the inflicted countries numbers had sharply increased, I realized that I could no longer keep up with new information from 100 countries. So I made another procedure which enables moderators to manipulate the numbers on screen from romote. Not only the moderators who willingly accepted the hard work, but also everyone that gave us reliable information were able to add streaming data. The role of this streaming is to show basic information to undertand situation easily. For detail information, please visit our reference sites. References: 1. Mr Gove says the UK is developing tools to tackle the virus including treatments, vaccines and making sure the NHS has the resilience to handle future cases. “We are dealing with a new virus whose spread and capacity to cause death are unlike those we have seen before,” he says. UK Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove give Saturday’s media briefing from Downing Street. A further 708 people have died of Covid-19 in the UK – among them a five-year-old. The total of deaths in the UK is now at 4,313. While the number of deaths is at a record high, the daily count of new, confirmed cases dropped from 4,450 on Friday to 3,735. However, there are concerns that police could be put under strain this weekend amid the warm weather. BBC News Special | Coronavirus Daily Update
