Another 823 hospital patients in the UK have died after contracting the coronavirus, taking the total to 17,337. There were 18,206 tests carried out in the 24 hours up to 9am on Tuesday 21 April – far short of the 100,000 a day the government has promised by the end of April. A further 778 COVID-19 deaths were reported in England, 70 in Scotland and 25 in Wales. The number of cases of coronavirus in the UK has jumped to 87, the largest increase in a single day in the outbreak so far. (Subscribe: https://bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe) England’s Chief Medical Officer has warned that we are on the verge of moving from trying to contain the virus by tracking all known cases, to the ‘delay’ phase of the official response. That’s to stop the number of cases rising too quickly.
