Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Saturday, during a daily briefing on the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, that his government is “not looking” at retaliatory or punitive measures following an order from U.S. President Donald Trump for the medical supply firm 3M to stop exporting N95 masks to Canada. Trudeau also spoke about the federal government’s delay in releasing coronavirus projection models, saying it relies on data from the provinces before it can create an accurate projection on the impact of the novel coronavirus across the country. Trudeau also announced $40 million in funding for women’s shelters and sexual assault centres across the country, including an additional $10 million for shelters helping indigenous women and children fleeing domestic violence. As of Saturday morning, Canada had 12,920 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to numbers compiled by researchers at John Hopkins University. There have been 215 deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus.
