Not only is the sector missing 3 teeth, but the rack and pinion swivel shaft is also seized from years and years of rust build up. In a previous episode, I attempt to weld blobs of flux metal to replace 3 missing teeth on my steering sector gear. While it worked for a while, the torque of steering merely grinded down the teeth that were meant to be cast iron strength. The stock original steering sector is extremely rare and hard to find. I did find one for $120 which I wasnt willing to pay. There were similar gears that are attached to a different linkage but I grinded the rivets off and welded onto my linkage. On top of selling my Cub Cadet for $300, I pieced together a cracked hood and fabricated brackets to remount to the tractor and welded the mower deck of its rotted areas with sheet metal. I picked this free mower up along with another one off the street thanks to a tip from my friend Quinn “The Mailman”. The mower was apart and the previous owner had recoiled the engine cover backwards. I repaired the recoil starter, but turns out the engine had a blown connecting rod.

My brakes felt like they were always rubbing, so much that they were smoking. The repowered engine had an attached muffler so I removed the original stock muffler out of the bottom cradle as well as the not needed heat shield. I repaired the shifter quadrant because the 2 bottom plastic tabs were broken and was loose. I fabricated some tabs and it’s good as new. Today I pack up a mtd transmission and sending it off to a subscriber who saw it on one of my videos and needed it. I finish off my mtd cub cadet project by painting it and fixing the cracks in an otherwise good condition tractor seat. My friends Larry and Bobby gave me the idea to use Gorilla Tape, and Nick from Medford told me to heat it up like shrink wrap with a propane torch. I drove it out of the garage today and into the back yard to make room in the garage for my next project.
