Ontario Premier Doug Fordheld a press briefing Friday and discussed the provinceโs ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Premier Doug Ford has urged Ontarians to โgo get testedโ after expanding the criteria to include a wide range of people, with or without symptoms. The province is still looking at when they can begin the next stage of reopening and Ford said they would be opening up short term rentals for cottages and bed and breakfast businesses once it’s approved by the province’s health committee, but he hopes rentals will be allowed to reopen by next week. Ontario reported 344 new COVID-19 cases and 15 on Friday as total cases rose to 29,747. Ontario Premier Doug Ford held a briefing Monday alongside Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliot. Ontario reported 326 new cases of novel coronavirus Sunday morning, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 27,859. Nineteen new deaths were also announced, bringing the total fatalities attributed to the virus in the province to 2,266. Ford said on Friday that they are looking at the idea of a regional approach to reopenings, in conjunction with the expanded testing plan announced earlier that day. He said that more testing gives a better scope whatโs happening around the province and can help guide what locations could be reopened sooner. Ford said Wednesday that the Ontario government will take over five more long-term care homes around the Greater Toronto Area amid the coronavirus pandemic. The announcement came after a startling report from the Canadian military was released Tuesday outlining multiple issues in homes across the province.
