New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs and the province’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell provided an update on Sunday regarding the number of COVID-19 cases in the province and discussed the government’s ongoing response to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Starting June 1, New Brunswick will only be testing individuals with two or more symptoms of COVID-19, announced Dr. Russell. The province’s top doctor also announced three new cases of COVID-19, all confirmed to be elderly residents of Manoir de la Vallée Manor in Atholville, N.B., bringing New Brunswick’s total active coronavirus cases to 12. The community is dealing with an increase in cases after a family doctor who contracted the virus outside New Brunswick didn’t self-isolate upon return. Two new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the province, bringing the total number to 128. Dr. Russell said during the press conference that there’s a cluster of COVID-19 cases now in Zone 5 of the province, which covers the Campbellton, N.B. region. New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell and Premier Blaine Higgs provided an update on the province’s COVID-19 fight on Wednesday. Russell confirmed 11 new cases of the novel coronavirus during the briefing, bringing the total number of cases to 81. Russell said the new cases are in the age range of 20’s to 60’s. Of the 81 cases, 43 are travel-related, 22 are close contacts of confirmed cases, three cases are from community transmission, and 13 cases remain under investigation. Fourteen people have since recovered from the virus and four people are in hospital, including two of the latest confirmed cases. New Brunswick’s state of emergency has also been extended another 14 days. New Brunswick officials provided an update on the province’s ongoing efforts to curb the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Jennifer Russell, New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health, said on Tuesday that there are two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province, bringing the total province-wide to 70. One case is travel-related and the other is a contact of another person with the virus, Dr. Russell told reporters. Also, during the press conference, Premier Blaine Higgs said the province is currently in the process of “enhancing” their pandemic operational plan. He added that the plan will provide additional details and guidance on how the province will respond to an increase in COVID-19 cases going forward. As of Monday, two cases of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed by the New Brunswick government, bringing the total number of cases to 68.
