Children make up just a small portion of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. and while they are less likely to become severely ill compared to adults, at least three children have died from the virus. Dr. Dyan Hes, a New York pediatrician, joined CBSN to discuss the impact the pandemic is having on kids.
The United States is close to overtaking Italy as the country with the world’s highest coronavirus death toll, and New York alone has more COVID-19 cases than any country outside the US. President Donald Trump says he wants to reopen America as soon as possible. But nearly one third of all cases in the world are now in the US. The World Health Organization is warning that lifting restrictions imposed over the coronavirus crisis too early could bring a deadly resurgence. The COVID-19 pandemic has reached another grim milestone, with the global death toll now more than 100,000.Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/deutschewelleenglish?sub_confirmation=1 For more news go to: http://www.dw.com/en/ Follow DW on social media: ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deutschewellenews/ ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/dwnews ►Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dw_stories/ Für Videos in deutscher Sprache besuchen Sie: https://www.youtube.com/channel/deutschewelle #Coronavirus #Covid19 #NewYork

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw provided a provincial update on the COVID-19 situation in the province on Thursday. Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll rose by three on Thursday, reaching 32 total fatalities from the disease. Twenty-two of those were in the Calgary zone. The three latest deaths were a woman in her 80s in the Calgary zone, a man in his 70s in the Edmonton zone, and a woman in her 60s in the Calgary zone, the doctor said. One death was linked to a continuing care centre in Calgary, but Alberta’s top doctor said the individual was not a resident of McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre in Calgary, where over a dozen deaths had previously been recorded. So far, 151 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in staff and residents in continuing care facilities. Alberta Health said the province had 1,451 confirmed cases. In the last 24 hours, there have been 28 new cases in Alberta. On Wednesday, the province released its full projections modelled in three scenarios: probable, elevated and extreme. Modelling is done to allow the government to anticipate and prepare for the demands on the province’s health-care system. As the federal government extends its social distancing guidance, Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, joins “CBS This Morning” to explain what needs to happen before the restrictions can be lifted. While the White House hopes there aren’t more outbreaks like the one in New York City, the country has to be prepared for that, she said.
As the number of cases increases, the U.S. death toll nears 2,000.
We’re at a critical point in our response to the COVID-19 outbreak in Canada. Experts say that we need to keep up with drastic measures in order to flatten the curve. And if we don’t, the number of cases will continue to rise to the point where the healthcare system will become overwhelmed and thousands of people will die. So today, we’ve got André Picard, a health columnist with the Globe and Mail, to help us assess how Canada is doing and whether we need to be doing more to curb the spread of the coronavirus. 코로나19 추가 환자 70명…국내 확진자 모두 833명으로 늘어 South Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced more new COVID-19 cases today. A huge jump especially compared to this time last week. The death toll from the virus also went up. We start things off by connecting to our Hong Yoo standing by on the line. Please fill us in. Another COVID-19 patient died on Monday at around 4:11 PM, bringing the domestic death toll to eight. This patient was being treated at Kyungpook National University Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. His infection route has been traced to Cheongdo Daenam Hospital, the site of the country’s first coronavirus death,… and it’s where at least 113 people have been infected. With this, the number of coronavirus-related deaths there has risen to six. And 70 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Monday afternoon, bringing the total number of cases to 833. 41 cases were in Daegu and 12 each in Gyeongsangbuk-do and Busan. The majority of the cases overall at least 456 of them are members of a Daegu-based religious group known as Shincheonji. Meanwhile, the number of cases in the army has risen to 13 in total with two soldiers newly confirmed. To stop it spreading further in the army, the Ministry of Defense has banned outdoor training and ordered troops to find ways to manage their training schedules flexibly.
