More than 20,000 people have now died in hospital in the UK after becoming infected with coronavirus. The government described it as “a tragic and terrible milestone”. The number doesn’t included deaths in care homes or the community in England and Northern Ireland. Previously the government’s chief scientific adviser had said that keeping deaths below 20,000 would be “a good outcome”. Meanwhile Downing Street has announced that the Prime Minister Boris Johnson will return to work on Monday. It’s three weeks since he was admitted to intensive care suffering from the coronavirus infection.
