Manitoba recorded one new case of COVID-19 on Wednesday as the number of active cases in the province has fallen to below 10, according to health officials. The new reported case brings the total number in Manitoba to 298. Chief medical health officer Dr. Brent Roussin said Wednesday that four of the province’s active cases are linked to a cluster related to temporary foreign workers in the Southern Health region of the province. The number of COVID-19-related deaths in the province remains at seven. Manitoba’s chief medical health officer Dr. Brent Roussin and Shared Health’s chief nursing officer Lanette Siragusa shared an update on the most recent numbers of COVID-19 cases in the province and the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic on Monday. During the briefing, it was announced that there are no new cases of the novel coronavirus to report. Roussin said the province’s count of lab-confirmed positive and probable positive cases remains at 295. The doctor gave more information on two cases reported late last week, which health officials have previously said were related to travel. Roussin now says both cases were truck drivers who had traveled into the United States. He said both truck drivers had self-isolated quickly after noticing symptoms. The province enters Phase 2 of its reopening plan on Monday, which will include expanded capacity at childcare centres, allowing limited access to educational facilities, as well as the reopening of community centres and resumption of team sports and recreational activities like theatre and dance. Dr. Brent Roussin, the province’s chief medical health officer, reported that no new cases of coronavirus have been found in Manitoba, keeping the case numbers at 294. Seven people have died, while 273 people have recovered. Manitoba’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Brent Roussin and Lanette Siragusa of Manitoba Shared Health provided an update on the province’s COVID-19 crisis and response on Friday. Roussin announced that there were no new cases of coronavirus in the province, for the third day in a row. Manitoba’s cases continue to stand at 289, with 28 active cases. Roussin said there were three individuals in hospital, with one in intensive care. Asked about how people should congregate during the long weekend, Roussin acknowledged there’s confusion. He said the more people you spend time with, the more you increase your risk — so people should still be cautious while enjoying an afternoon on a patio. On Thursday, Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister said that additional enforcement is coming to public health orders in the province. New legislation has now been adopted and enacted under the Public Health Act which gives more powers to some officials allowing them to ticket people who are failing to comply with the orders. The two new cases are related to a cluster of cases in the Prairie Mountain Health Region, which now totals seven. Roussin said the workplace is not related to health care or food supply, and does not interact greatly with the general public. Manitoba health officials provided an update on the most recent numbers of COVID-19 cases in the province and the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic on Thursday. Manitoba’s chief public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin reported five new cases of the virus, bringing the total number in the province to 262. He added that 174 individuals were listed as recovered and there were 82 active cases. Lanette Siragusa, spokesperson for Shared Health said a major shipment of personal protective equipment (PPE) came to the province on Wednesday by chartered plane, which included 150,000 disposable isolation gowns due to a partnership between the province and Spirit RX Services, a local medical supply company. On Wednesday, Roussin stated that “in the coming weeks,” the province will be looking at ways to ease the COVID-19 restrictions that have been put in place during the pandemic, which would include safely reopening some non-essential businesses. Manitoba health officials say seven more people have contracted the novel coronavirus, bringing the province’s total to 103. “It is within our range of projections at this stage,” said Dr. Brent Roussin, the province’s chief public health officer. “This is within things that we were expecting.” Manitoba currently has 103 probable and confirmed cases of COVID-19. One person has died. Three people are currently in hospital, two in ICU, and four people have recovered. A staff member at Selkirk Regional Health Centre has tested positive for COVID-19, said Roussin. “This individual worked in the health centre’s emergency department and medicine ward from March 19 to 23,” he said.
