As parent company GM begins its rollout of EV’s based on the Ultium battery platform, automaker Cadillac is readying its very first electric Caddy, the Lyriq, for production. With a range of over 300 miles, a starting price of $60,000 and all the bells and whistles expected from the brand, the Lyriq could be a surprise hit when it starts landing in dealerships in the first half of 2022. Cadillac gave us an opportunity to check out the vehicle at a studio in Los Angeles and while we can’t comment on how well it drives, it does look the part: a Caddy with some extra bits of flair afforded to an EV including vertical headlights and taillights that are an homage to the automaker’s classic fin era. Reservations for the 2023 Lyriq will open in September. Cadillac is pledging to go all-electric in the next decade and the Lyriq is the company’s first step toward that future.
#CadillacLYRIQ #Cadillac Cadillac has only revealed the Lyriq’s base price so far—an attractive $59,995—so we’re taking a guess at pricing for its upper trim levels. We expect to learn more about the Lyriq lineup and its various standard and optional features closer to the crossover’s on-sale date. Engine, Transmission, and Performance The Lyriq will come standard in rear-wheel drive form with an electric motor on the rear axle; all-wheel drive will be optional and adds a second motor at the front to drive those wheels. Cadillac has been mum on details about the Lyriq’s all-wheel drive powertrain so far, so we don’t know how much horsepower it will make; the rear-wheel drive model is said to produce 340 horsepower. Either way, acceleration is sure to be brisk, at least at lower speeds, thanks to the immediate nature of an electric motor’s power delivery. The I-Pace, for example, leapt to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds during our testing; we expect the Lyriq to provide similar performance. Range, Charging, and Battery Life General Motors is launching a line of new EV battery technology with the Lyriq called Ultium. The scalable technology allows the automaker to produce batteries that range in size from 50.0 kWh to 200 kWh, although the largest size is said to be reserved only for large EV pickup trucks such as the upcoming GMC Hummer EV SUT. Cadillac claims that the Lyriq will offer a battery with about 100-kWh worth of capacity and should be capable of driving [More]
The production debut of the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ is the culmination of a century of innovation and the beginning of a great new era. With testing of Cadillac’s inaugural electric luxury SUV running ahead of schedule, the brand announced that customers may place order reservations beginning in September 2021, with initial availability starting the first half of 2022. LYRIQ will be available with premier technologies and stirring performance capabilities enabled by the vehicle’s dedicated electric architecture. A 12-module, 100 kilowatt-hour battery pack and a rear-wheel-drive Ultium Platform deliver a Cadillac-estimated 340 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque — and a Cadillac-estimated over 300 miles of range with a full charge. LYRIQ also offers high-speed DC fast charging for public stations at 190 kW, enabling customers to add an estimated 76 miles of range in about 10 minutes of charging time. For home charging, LYRIQ offers a segment-leading 19.2 kW charging module, which can add up to 52 miles of range per hour of charge. Additional 2023 LYRIQ highlights include: Available Super Cruise6, the industry’s first true hands-free driver-assistance technology for compatible roads A stunning 33-inch-diagonal advanced LED display with the ability to emit over 1 billion colors Cadillac’s next-generation Active Noise Cancellation system Slim-line LED headlamps with choreographed lighting sequence AKG Studio 19-speaker audio system with headrest speakers Digital Key digital vehicle access Dual level charge cord Standard 20-inch split six-spoke alloy wheels or optional 22-inch dynamic split-spoke Reverse Rim alloy wheels Customers will be able to select from Satin [More]
The Lyriq has been designed from the ground up and will ride on General Motors’ new scalable battery architecture; the company claims a low center of gravity and a spacious cabin as benefits of the dedicated EV-architecture. The Lyriq should be on sale sometime in early 2022 as a 2023 model. Not only is Lyriq a brand-new nameplate for the American luxury brand, it’s also Cadillac’s first all-electric offering. When it goes on sale, it’ll go head to head with heavy hitters such as the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace, and Tesla Model X. The 2023 Lyriq has the same new vertical signature lighting and transparent crystal black pseudo grille motif with pinstriping and the Cadillac crest that lights up. The taillights also light up like digital rain falling on the vehicle, executive director of Global Cadillac Design Andrew Smith said. The vehicle comes to life when it recognizes you, waking up with a sequential light show. Buyers will get the choice of two exterior color options at launch, Satin Steel Metallic or Stellar Black Metallic, and two available cabin hues, Sky Cool Gray or Noir. Inside, a massive 33.0-inch LED display sits front and center on the dash, able to recreate over one billion colors. The Lyriq also comes with active noise cancellation and a 19-speaker audio system with headrest-mounted speakers.
