ELON Musk’s Starship rocket reportedly exploded just minutes into its seventh test flight in a dramatic mid-air failure. Incredible footage shows glowing debris raining down across the sky after the 400ft behemoth launched from Boca Chica, southern Texas, on Thursday. The spacecraft was supposed to soar across the Gulf of Mexico from Texas on a near loop – similar to previous test flights. SpaceX had packed it with 10 dummy satellites for practice at releasing them. It was the first flight with this new and upgraded spacecraft. But while the rocket’s booster performed flawlessly – making a successful return and being caught between two giant mechanical arms at the launchpad – the rocket itself vanished. Thousands of protesters have joined an anti-racism rally outside the US embassy in London as Black Lives Matter demonstrations take place in cities across the UK. Crowds of demonstrators wore face coverings and held placards outside the embassy in Battersea, south-west London, on Sunday, in protest against police brutality following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The Metropolitan Police warned drivers of disruption on Nine Elms Lane, while video footage showed protesters flooding the roads outside the embassy. Free masks, gloves and hand gel were being given out to the thousands of people, with some wearing t-shirts reading “I can’t breathe”. Another protester had written “get your knee off our necks” in luminous ink on the back of his jacket, echoing the words black civil rights leader Rev Al Sharpton who spoke at Mr Floyd’s memorial service earlier this week. Meanwhile, London Black Lives Matter organised an online protest via Zoom for those who are unable to attend demonstrations in person. Elsewhere, hundreds of people crowded into Manchester’s St Peter’s Square, kneeling in silence as a mark of respect for Mr Floyd, who died after a white police officer held him down by pressing a knee into his neck on May 25. There may be light at the end of the tunnel today for London as new modelling suggests the capital’s coronavirus outbreak is slowing dramatically. The research by Public Health England and Cambridge University suggests the reproduction rate of the virus, the ‘r’ is now at 0.4 in the capital. Meaning for every ten people who catch coronavirus, it will be passed on to just four others. The research estimates that new daily infections in the capital are now at just 24 Before the lockdown, London’s r rate was around 2.8, with 213,000 people being infected a day by March 23rd, when the lockdown was imposed. The modelling suggests that London’s infection rate is halving every 3.5 days in an encouraging boost for Britain’s biggest city and economic powerhouse. After London, the South West has the second lowest rate of infection with 739 daily recorded cases. In different parts of the country, however, the picture painted is much bleaker.
