Iran has warned Britain that it should be âscaredâ of retaliation after Royal Marines seized an oil supertanker in Gibraltar. Â âI am openly saying that Britain should be scared of Iranâs retaliatory measures over the illegal seizure of the Iranian oil tanker,â said cleric Mohammad Ali Mousavi Jazayeri. Â The comments came after the UK-flagged Pacific Voyager tanker was mysteriously halted in the Persian Gulf early on Saturday – but was later confirmed to be “safe and well”. Â The ship was stopped as part of a routine procedure to adjust its arrival time at its next port of call, a UK Marine Trade Operations official said. Â The UKMTO, which coordinates shipping in the Gulf, had been in direct contact with the vessel, the official said. Â Iran earlier dismissed “fabricated” reports that the ship had been seized by its Revolutionary Guard forces. Â âWe have shown that we will never remain silent against bullying …As we gave a staunch response to the American drone, the appropriate response to this illegal capture (of the tanker) will be given by Iran as well,â he said. Â British Royal Marines seized the supertanker Grace 1 on Thursday for trying to take oil to Syria in violation of EU sanctions in a move which drew Tehranâs fury and could escalate its confrontation with the West. Â A Gibraltar spokesman said the 28-member crew, who have remained on board the supertanker, were mainly Indians with some Pakistanis and Ukrainians. Â Police and customs officials remained on board the vessel to carry

Iranian cleric Mohammad Ali Mousavi Jazayeri warned Britain on Saturday about Tehran’s retaliation for the capture of an Iranian supertanker by Royal Marines in Gibraltar. “I am openly saying that Britain should be scared of Iran’s retaliatory measures over the illegal seizure of the Iranian oil tanker,” said the cleric, who is a member of the powerful clerical body, the Assembly of Experts. British Royal Marines seized the supertanker Grace 1 on Thursday for trying to take oil to Syria in violation of EU sanctions, a dramatic step that drew Tehran’s fury and could escalate its confrontation with the West. It comes as British flagged supertanker Pacfic Voyager is passing through the Persian Gulf this weekend.  Tehran yesterday threatened to seize British shipping in the Gulf in a direct response to the dramatic swoop by the marines with helicopters and fast boats in the early hours of Thursday.   Yesterday, Moshem Rezaei said Tehran had a “duty” to respond to the seizure of the Grace 1 over suspicions it was carrying oil to Bashar Assad’s Syrian regime in breach of EU sanctions. A detachment of Royal Marines from 42 Commando boarded the vessel on Thursday in a joint operation with the Royal Gibraltar Police. Writing on Twitter, Mr Rezaei, who led the Guard during the 1980s “tanker war” in the Gulf, said: “If England does not release the Iranian oil tanker, the duty… (of Iran) is to respond and seize one English oil tanker.” The warning came after Britain’s ambassador in Tehran, Rob Macaire, was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday Britain would face “consequences” over the seizure of an Iranian oil tanker. He also said Iran’s increase in uranium enrichment was for peaceful aims, the semi-official news agency Tasnim reported. Iran has demanded the immediate release of the tanker Grace 1, which British Royal Marines boarded off the coast of Gibraltar last week and seized over accusations it was breaking sanctions by taking oil to Syria. “You [Britain] are the initiator of insecurity and you will realise the consequences later,” Rouhani was quoted by Tasnim as saying after a cabinet meeting. Rouhani also said Iran’s decision to increase uranium enrichment would produce fuel for power plants and serve other peaceful aims, and that it was within the framework of Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.  It comes as Britain deployed Royal Navy warship HMS Montrose into the Strait of Hormuz to protect UK shipping after Iran threatened to seize them in revenge. She is believed escorted oil tanker Pacific Voyager as she sailed through the piece of sea that separates the United Arab Emirates from Iran. The tanker had to be checked on by UK officials over the weekend as she stopped close to Iranian waters. The waterway has been the scene of five attacks of tankers this year amid a renewed flaring of tensions in the Gulf.   Iran has been squaring up to the West as it reels over the scrapping of the so-called nuclear deal by the US, which traded a pledge not to develop nukes for

British Royal Marines seized the supertanker Grace 1 on Thursday, accusing it of trying to take oil to Syria in violation of European Union sanctions. But this dramatic step has infuriated Iran, threatening to escalate confrontations with the West. Mohsen Rezai, a senior commander in Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards said in a tweet: “If Britain does not release the Iranian oil tanker, it is the (Iranian) authorities duty to seize a British oil tanker.â He added: “Islamic Iran in its 40-year history has never initiated hostilities in any battles but has also never hesitated in responding to bullies.â Tehran had summoned the British ambassador to voice “its very strong objection to the illegal and unacceptable seizure” of its ship. The Iranian Foreign Ministry said the Iranian oil tanker was carrying crude oil from Iran, according to the state news agency IRNA. Gibraltar said it had reasonable grounds to believe the Grace 1 was carrying crude oil to the Baniyas refinery in Syria. The Grace 1 was impounded off the coast of Gibraltar after sailing around Africa – the longer route from the Middle East to the mouth of the Mediterranean Sea The EU has had sanctions in place for nearly a decade that restrict oil sales to Syria. Europe does not have broad sanctions in place against Iran, but the US does, forcing Tehran into mainstream markets to look for unconventional outlets to sell oil. But Spain also reignited its war of words with Britain over sovereignty in Gibraltar following the seizure of the tanker. Acting Foreign Minister Josep

GroĂbritannien beschlagnahmt Iranischen Tanker vor Gibraltar Iran droht mit GegenmaĂnahmen 5.07.2019 An Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander threatened on Friday to seize a British ship in retaliation for the capture of an Iranian supertanker in Gibraltar by Royal Marines. âIf Britain does not release the Iranian oil tanker, it is the authorities duty to seize a British oil tanker,â Mohsen Rezai said on Twitter. The Gibraltar government said the crew on board the supertanker Grace 1 were being interviewed as witnesses, not criminal suspects, in an effort to establish the nature of the cargo and its ultimate destination. British Royal Marines abseiled onto the ship off the coast of the British territory on Thursday and seized it. They landed a helicopter on the moving vessel in pitch darkness. The move escalates a confrontation between Iran and the West just weeks after the United States called off air strikes minutes before impact, and draws Washingtonâs close ally into a crisis in which European powers had striven to appear neutral. Iranian military commanders warned it will be their âdutyâ to respond in kind following the dramatic swoop yesterday on 300,000-tonne vessel Grace 1. Grace 1 is believed to have been transporting oil from Iran to a refinery in Syria, flaunting international sanctions.  Royal Marines used helicopters and fast attack boats to capture the vessel â flagged to Panama â in a dramatic operation.  Revolutionary Guard commander Mohsen Rezai however threatened to seize a British tanker in response. Taking to Twitter, he said: âIf Britain does not release the Iranian oil tanker, it is the Iranian authorities duty to seize a British oil tanker.â Tehran authorities also summonded the British ambassador to answer for the incident which they have branded “piracy”.   Royal Marines were hailed for the âbraveâ and âboldâ operation to seize the tanker suspected of carrying oil destined for the cruel regime of Bashar al-Assad.  The marines worked alongside the authorities in Gibraltar to detain the Grace 1, which was believed to be heading to the Banyas refinery in breach of European Union sanctions. Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the swift action by the authorities on the Rock and the Royal Marines would deny valuable resources to Assad’s “murderous regime”. The marines were brought in to use their specialist boarding skills to help ensure the Royal Gibraltar Police could gain access to the tanker at sea.   The first marines onto the vessel descended on ropes from a Wildcat helicopter, while others were in rigid inflatable boats â around 16 Royal Gibraltar Police officers were also involved in the

Daily Star Online understands HMS Montrose â a Type 23 frigate â was on duty today as she guarded British shipping passing through the Strait of Hormuz. It is believed she escorted oil tanker Pacific Voyager as she sailed through the piece of sea that separates the United Arab Emirates from Iran. The waterway has been the scene of attacks of tankers this year amid a renewed flaring of tensions in the Gulf. Britain has been roped into the feud as the Royal Marines stopped a tanker at Gibraltar which is believed to have transporting Iranian oil to Syria.  Iran reacted furiously and outright threatened to board British ships â warning UK officials to âbe scaredâ.  Royal Navy warship HMS Montrose â who is stationed in Bahrain â was on alert in the Strait of Hormuz this morning as Pacific Voyager passed Iran. The tanker had to be checked on by UK officials over the weekend as she stopped close to Iranian waters â sparking fears she had been boarded. Weighing 4,900 tons, the HMS Montrose carries a Wildcat helicopter and is bristling with weapons. She has a 4.5inch gun on her bow and carries the powerful Sea Ceptor anti-air missiles.  In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said: âThe UK maintains a long standing maritime presence in the Gulf. “We are continuously monitoring the security situation there and are committed to maintaining freedom of navigation in accordance with international law.â    Iran has been squaring up to the West as it reels over the scrapping of the so-called nuclear deal by the US, which

HMS Duncan (seen above sailing out of the Black Sea), a Type 45 destroyer, will replace HMS Montrose in the region as Tehran threatens to retaliate against British shipping in the region after Royal Marines seized an oil tanker off Gibraltar last week (the tanker, Grace 1, is pictured inset). The Montrose has already had to confront three Iranian vessels in the region, Britain says, as Iran warned today that Britain will be ‘slapped in the face’ for ‘daring’ to capture the ship. Britain’s capture of the Grace 1 was ‘not valid’, Tehran’s foreign ministry said, adding: ‘This is a dangerous game and has consequences.’ Tensions are already spiralling in the Middle East amid exchanges of angry rhetoric between America and Iran and the breakdown of the 2015 nuclear deal. Theresa May’s deputy spokeswoman said: ‘We are talking to the US about building on our presence in the face of recent threats to shipping in the area.’ Original Article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7240011/Iran-demands-Britain-immediately-releases-oil-tanker.html Original Video: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1964228/Video-Hunt-says-Britain-doesnt-want-escalate-tension-Iran.html Daily Mail Facebook: http://facebook.com/dailymail Daily Mail IG: http://instagram.com/dailymail Daily Mail Snap: https://www.snapchat.com/discover/Daily-Mail/8392137033 Daily Mail Twitter: http://twitter.com/MailOnline Daily Mail Pinterest: http://pinterest.co.uk/dailymail Daily Mail Google+: https://plus.google.com/+DailyMail Get the free Daily Mail mobile app: http://dailymail.co.uk/mobile

We are absolutely clear that if this situation is not resolved quickly, there will be serious consequences. He added Iran was the “biggest loser” if freedom of navigation was restricted, and said, “We’re not looking at military options; we’re looking at a diplomatic way to resolve the situation.” Iran announced it had seized the British-flagged Stena Impero tanker on Friday but denies reports that it seized the British-managed Mesdar, saying the ship was âshortly stoppedâ by Iranian authorities. The UK seized an Iranian tanker near Gibraltar on July 4, which was suspected of being on its way to sell oil to Syria in breach of international sanctions, to which Tehran announced it would respond in kind. Tensions between the United States and Iran have been escalating since Iran announced in May that it would partially withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal which the Obama administration, Iran, the European Union, and the P4+1 signed in 2015 – the Trump administration withdrew from the deal in May 2018, re-imposing sanctions on Iran. Iran summoned the British ambassador in Tehran over the “illegal seizure” of an Iranian oil tanker in Gibraltar on Thursday. British Royal Marines seized an oil tanker in Gibraltar on Thursday accused of bringing oil to Syria in violation of EU sanctions, a dramatic step that could escalate confrontation between the West and Iran.
Footage of a British oil tanker seized by Iran has been released on Iranian state television. Iranian officials initially claimed the Stena Impero violated international maritime regulations after ramming a shipping vessel, but now say the vessel was seized in retaliation to the earlier seizure of an Iranian vessel in the Mediterranean. #Iran #Gulf #JeremyHunt Subscribe here: http://bit.ly/ODNsubs Twitter: https://twitter.com/ODN Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ODN/ If you wish to purchase any of our clips for commercial use, please visit: http://www.itnproductions.co.uk/news/

Days after the UK – at US request – seized a tanker filled with Iranian oil near Gibraltar, a UK tanker in the Persian Gulf has made an abrupt u-turn and abandoned its mission to transport Iraqi oil to Europe. Now sheltering in Saudi waters, the tanker fears a tit-for-tat Iranian retaliation. Is this a case of “unintended consequences” for the US-engineered July 4th Iran tanker seizure? Iran tries to seize British tanker in Strait of Hormuz | DW News Britain says three Iranian boats tried to intercept a British oil tanker near the Persian Gulf in the Strait of Hormuz. London says they were driven off by a Royal Navy frigate – the HMS Montrose – escorting the tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The frigate aimed its deck guns at the Iranian boats as a warning. No shots were fired. Iran has denied that its vessels tried to stop the tanker, saying they were carrying out routine duties. The incident comes after a warning yesterday from Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. senior Iranian official has threatened to seize a British oil tanker in retaliation for the United Kingdom’s boarding and seizure of the Iranian supertanker Grace 1 off the coast of Gibraltar over suspected sanctions violations yesterday. The incident comes as Iran says it will begin enriching uranium in violation a controversial international agreement that the United Kingdom, along with France and Germany, have been struggling to salvage after the U.S. government pulled out last year. It also follows a spate of attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman and as tensions between the United States and Iran have pushed those two countries worryingly close to open conflict. The Expediency Discernment Council serves as an advisory body to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and reportedly has powerful supervisory functions across the country’s government. Rezaei was also previously head of the country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and may still be a member of that organization. The U.S. government has also blamed the IRGC for two separate sets of attacks on a total of six oil tankers between May and June 2019. The IRGC also took responsibility for shooting down a U.S. Navy drone in June, which almost prompted U.S. military action against Iran. Iran has already summoned the U.K. ambassador in Tehran to lodge a formal protest about the seizure of Grace 1, which Iranian authorities have branded as illegal and a “form of piracy.” British authorities have, not surprisingly, dismissed this characterization of the situation. BRITAIN should be “scared” about Tehran’s retaliation over the dramatic seizure of an Iranian supertanker by Royal Marines, a firebrand cleric warned today. Mohammad Ali Mousavi Jazayeri hinted the Islamic Republic may strike back over the capture of the giant vessel, impounded over fears it was illegally shipping oil to Syria. “I am openly saying that Britain should be scared of Iran’s retaliatory measures over the illegal seizure of the Iranian oil tanker,” said the cleric, a member of the powerful clerical body the Assembly of Experts.
British super tanker Pacific Voyager drifted in the Persian Gulf for six hours today prompting Iranian officials to announce that they had not boarded the 1,000ft vessel which was just outside its waters.
