Jennifer Aniston’s interior designer Stephen Shadley talks with Architectural Digest Editor-in-Chief Amy Astley about the ‘zen’ style and designs of the new home Aniston shares with husband Justin Theroux. Jennifer Aniston takes AD inside her dreamy California home high above Los Angeles, Jennifer Aniston crafts a scene of pure domestic bliss with husband Justin Theroux, a spectacular midcentury house, and a trio of very happy dogs. Aniston’s latest residential project is the reimagining of a Bel Air house that was designed by architect A. Quincy Jones and completed in 1965. The actress acquired the property in 2011, after selling her beloved Hal Levitt–designed home in L.A.’s Trousdale Estates enclave (AD, March 2010) and attempting to relocate to Manhattan—a move ultimately thwarted by the rabid paparazzi that swarmed outside her Greenwich Village apartment building. When she bought the Bel Air property, it had recently emerged from a renovation by architect Frederick Fisher, which, despite its sympathetic embrace of Jones’s vision, skewed a bit too cool and minimal for Aniston’s taste. Aniston enlisted the aid of AD100 interior designer Stephen Shadley, with whom she had collaborated on her previous L.A. home, to perform a similar alchemy in Bel Air—namely, to preserve the modernist ethos of the original scheme while softening some of its sharp lines and outfitting the interior with tactile, organic finishes and furnishings. Aniston seconds the notion, pointing to the vintage Jean Royère Polar Bear sofa, Jacques Adnet armchairs, and Mies van der Rohe daybed arranged in the living room.

An Alison Berger light fixture from Plug Inc. hangs above the Yamaha piano; the television is by Samsung, and the dog sculpture is from Craig Olsen. Basalt counters and floor tiles complement rift-cut teak cabinetry in the kitchen, which features a trio of stools by Emmerson Troop, a ProLine hood, and a Thermador cooktop and ovens. Legend’s home recording studio is furnished with a sofa covered in an Edelman leather. The bed in the master suite is by B&B Italia; the linens and throw are by Anichini. Quebec officials responded Wednesday to a military report which raised serious concerns as to how long-term care homes are being operated in the province. Premier François Legault said the 60-page report did “not have a lot of surprises” about the state of nursing homes, known as CHSLDs, amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. Legault said the long-term care home sector in the province has been unable to fill about 10,000 positions for years now. “The situation remains difficult,” he said, noting facilities desperately need more workers. The premier added they are introducing a program to recruit up to 10,000 workers to join long-term care homes and are offering a paid three-month training program. The report – which came after the military was sent into care homes in Quebec to assist — was released by the government on Wednesday and it outlines three major challenges: staffing shortages, management of personal protective equipment and how hot zones related to COVID-19 are handled. Quebec remains the epicentre of the virus’s outbreak in Canada. The province reported 89 additional deaths on Wednesday, bringing the total to 4,228. There are 541 new cases for a total of 49,139.. Premier Doug Ford said Wednesday that the Ontario government will take over five more long-term care homes around the Greater Toronto Area amid the coronavirus pandemic. The announcement came after a startling report from the Canadian military was released Tuesday outlining multiple issues in homes across the province. The report said military members observed cockroach infestations, aggressive feeding that caused choking, bleeding infections, and residents crying for help for hours. When asked if Ford would either fire or ask for the resignation of Minister of Long-Term Care Merrilee Fullerton, the premier refused and defended his minister. Prime Minister Boris Johnson had a heated Prime Minister’s Questions with Labour’s Sir Keir Starmer, as the opposition leader probed him on coronavirus testing in care homes. Speaking during Prime Minister’s Questions, Mr Johnson said that the expanded team of call centre workers and tracers would be ready by June 1 and would able to handle 10,000 new Covid-19 cases a day. he announcement came after Sir Keir Starmer claimed that the decision to abandon the original contact tracing scheme nearly 10 weeks ago had left a “huge hole in our defences”. Hitting back, Mr Johnson accused Sir Keir of “feigned ignorance” and said he had previously made clear that the UK had been forced to change course due to a lack of testing capacity. During the fiery exchange, Health Secretary Matt Hancock was also reprimanded by Sir Lindsay Hoyle for heckling Sir Keir, with the Speaker warning that he was “more than happy” for him to be leave the chamber. Victorians will be able to host up to five visitors in their homes and meet outdoors in groups of 10 from Wednesday, under the state’s first relaxation of coronavirus restrictions. Under what Premier Daniel Andrews termed the first “safe, cautious and appropriate step” towards normality, Victorians will be able to go fishing, hiking, play golf and join walking groups, provided physical distancing is maintained. The Government has also come to an agreed set of arrangements to allow professional sporting codes, including the AFL, to resume training from Wednesday, he said. “Training resuming paves the way for footy to be back and I think we all want that, provided it’s safe, appropriate and can be done in a cautious way and I’m confident that it can be,” Mr Andrews said. Weddings will now be able to have ten guests, while up to 20 people can attend funerals indoors, and up to 30 people can attend funerals held outdoors. Up to 10 people will be allowed to join religious gatherings, plus the additional people required to run the service.
