US President Donald Trump has sent a letter to the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) threatening to pull US funding permanently over Covid-19. The letter outlines a 30-day deadline for the body to commit to “substantive improvements” or risk losing millions and US membership altogether. Addressed to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, it criticises stages of the body’s response since December. Earlier on Monday, Mr Trump called the UN’s health body a “puppet of China”. The president, who faces re-election this year and has himself been criticised for his handling of the pandemic, has blamed China for trying to cover up the outbreak and has accused the WHO of failing to hold Beijing to account. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said Mr Trump was trying to mislead the public, smear China and “shift the blame for [the US’s] own incompetent response”. The US has more than 1.5 million of the world’s 4.8 million confirmed cases of coronavirus so far, with more than 90,000 deaths. Please subscribe HERE http://bit.ly/1rbfUog
President Trump spent the weekend at Camp David, where he tweeted out praise for the “great job” his administration had done responding to the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, health experts warn a vaccine may still be far off and Congress can’t come to terms on additional stimulus measures. Nikole Killion reports.
Former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, reportedly criticised his successor, Donald Trump’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. The country has turned into an epicentre of the Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus outbreak with over 12.4 lakh cases and over 75,000 deaths so far. Obama reportedly described the Trump administration’s response to the crisis as ‘chaotic’, ‘spotty’, and ‘anemic’. He was reportedly speaking to 3,000 members of the Obama Alumni Association, people who had served in his administration. Obama also sought support for Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden, who had served as Vice President in his administration. Watch the full video for more.

The director-general of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, delivered a powerful warning to world leaders to not politicize the response to COVID-19, saying doing so will lead to more deaths. “If we want to win, please quarantine politicizing COVID-19,” Tedros said. Tedros made the stern comments at a WHO press briefing Wednesday in response to a question about recent criticisms made by U.S. President Donald Trump, defending the organization about what they’ve done since the first known case was brought to their attention 100 days ago. “So my advice, three things,” the director-general said, “please, unity at the national level, no using COVID for political points. Second, honest solidarity at the global level. And honest leadership from the U.S. and China.” Tedros also got personal, saying he received many criticisms and even death threats over the last three months, but cares more about humanity being insulted with politicizing a virus that has killed more than 60,000 people so far. āIf you donāt want any more body bags, then you must refrain from politicizing it.ā The WHO has been criticized for its decision not to call COVID-19 a pandemic until March 11, long after many experts suggested it should do so.
