Anne Hathaway talks openly and honestly with Ellen DeGeneres about her struggles with alcoholism in this sad conversation. Hathaway candidly discusses how using alcohol as a crutch had harmed her relationships and her capacity to properly embrace her job as a mother. Hathaway describes how she decided to stop drinking and the difficulties she encountered, including feelings of loneliness and the need to always present a brave face in front of others. She also discusses how she was able to obtain help, create a new sense of community, and reclaim the joy and fulfillment she had felt in her life and job. The actress also discusses how the pandemic affected her mental health and her capacity to be present for her family, as well as her experience with the pandemic. Hathaway thanks the audience for the chance to have this discussion and exhorts anyone else going through a similar situation to get support. It’s a very moving and inspiring interview that demonstrates how to overcome challenges and emerge stronger.
