In Singapore, about 7,000 foreign workers in essential services have been moved from their purpose-built dormitories to alternative housing so far, in the government’s bid to break the chain of COVID-19 transmissions. The government also plans to put in place medical outposts in each of the 43 dormitories. Over 600 factory-converted dorms have also been inspected over a two-day period, and the Manpower Ministry said most are in compliance with safety measures. With an increasing number of new COVID-19 cases in Singapore linked to foreign worker dormitories, Minister Lawrence Wong on Thursday (Apr 9) said that the Government was “sparing no effort” to contain the spread of COVID-19 virus in the foreign worker dormitories. “We have a responsibility for these foreign workers who have come all the way here at considerable expense to make a living in Singapore,” Mr Wong said.
