The IEC announced earlier that it is pulling all the stops to ensure the finalisation of the capturing and auditing of the results for this year’s election, saying that this remains on course. The Eastern Cape is at just over 92% of the capturing, the Free State at just over 95%. The Northern Cape is at 100% with all the districts completed. Let’s take a look at the Northern Cape now and see how things are looking. The race is not only about the votes, but seats too. The makeup of provincial legislatures is also critical. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the government has released new modelling data on the coronavirus pandemic. The data shows that Canada is making progress in combating the spread of the virus, Trudeau said. Health Canada’s latest short-term modelling shows that COVID-19 could cause 7,700 to 9,400 deaths by June 15. The number of cases could rise to between 97,990 and 107,454. More than 93,000 Canadians have been diagnosed with COVID-19 as of Thursday. More than 7,500 Canadians have succumbed to the illness. “That’s an encouraging sign that the virus is slowing and in some places even stopping,” he said in an address outside Rideau Cottage on Thursday.
