Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the biggest risk factors for coronavirus are age, gender, living in a city and being black or from a minority ethnic background. In the daily coronavirus briefing, he said the government is determined to “get to the bottom of this” and “find ways of closing the gap”. Referring to COVID-19’s disproportionate impact on BAME people, he said: “People are angry about racial injustice and I get that. Black lives matter.” #coronavirus #COVID19 #UK SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel for more videos: http://www.youtube.com/skynews Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/skynews Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/skynews Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/skynews For more content go to http://news.sky.com and download our apps: Apple: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/sky-news/id316391924?mt=8 Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bskyb.skynews.android&hl=en_GB Sky News videos are now available in Spanish here/Los video de Sky News están disponibles en español aquí https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzG5BnqHO8oNlrPDW9CYJog

GET YOUR RESILIENCE SHIRT! If you want your own RESILIENCE shirt to proudly wear like Chris, go to: https://www.peakprosperity.com/shirts Global deaths from covid-19 are on the wane. Most countries and states are starting to remove lockdown restrictions. And now we’re starting to see medical claims that the SARS2 virus is losing potency. Is the covid-19 pandemic finally over? Not quite, cautions Chris. Yes, there are encouraging signs that fatalities are slowing, but there are still a lot of unknowns to address before we breathe a sigh of relief. The fact that lockdowns are ending at the same time thousands are coming into close quarters at protests will tell us in just a few weeks how worried we’ll need to be about a resurgence in infections. Meanwhile, lots of uncertainty continues to swirl around chronic questions like ‘Is HCQ helpful or harmful?” and ‘Does covid-19 have lab origins?’. With each day it seems there’s a new wrinkle released that keeps the skeptics and the believers at odds with each other. Last, the societal trauma and the resulting inequality the official “rescue” efforts are creating are manifesting in the growing social unrest underlying the recent outbreak of protests and riots across the country. We need to keep our eyes on the true villains in this story — primary among them the Federal Reserve — rather than fighting each other. The daily press conference was held by Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who was joined by Prof John Newton, who leads the UK’s testing programme. Here’s what they told us: In order of significance, demographic factors which affects people’s susceptibility to coronavirus include: Age, sex, living in a city, and ethnic background. The government is looking at how to close these gaps, with work led by the equalities minister, Kemi Badenoch Other health inequalities, linked to occupation, income and deprivation, also apply and may partially explain the effect of ethnicity Each day, just over 40,000 antibody tests, which can tell whether someone has previously had the virus, are being administered to NHS and care staff. The government wants to roll them out to the public but Mr Hancock stressed that we do not yet know whether antibodies convey significant immunity After criticism from the statistics watchdog, the government committed to working with the watchdog to publish its statistics in the best way If someone tests negative while isolating due to an instruction from a contract tracer, they must still complete the isolation period. Governor Phil Murphy holds a coronavirus briefing in Trenton on June 2, 2020.
In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and provincial cabinet ministers Christine Elliott (health) and Vic Fedeli (economic development) provide an update on their government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.
The federal government continues to add to the supply of personal protective equipment and related medical equipment needed to fight COVID-19. The prime minister says the race to accumulate what Canada needs requires a balance between shopping all over the world and continuing to bolster manufacturing capabilities at home. Justin Trudeau pointed out that over half the face shields acquired so far have been made by a Canadian company that expanded its workforce to contribute to the effort. He says Canada has what’s required to meet the provinces’ demands at the moment but as the slow reopening of the country begins, more will be needed. The federal government is in the market for hundreds of millions of pieces of gear, from gloves to gowns to ventilators. The numbers on hand of most goods are ticking steadily up, though not for ventilators – as of May 26, only 203 had arrived out of the nearly 40,000 ordered. Bangladesh was already struggling with poor medical waste management before the coronavirus pandemic. Now, it is at risk of being hit hard by what is being called a “sudden onslaught” of single-use medical plastic. Around 250 tonnes of medical waste was generated by hospitals last month, and sanitation workers often lack the protective gear to keep them safe from COVID-19. COVID-19 Update 78 with Roger Seheult, MD of https://www.medcram.com The CDC and WHO have conflicting recommendations on some aspects of the use of face coverings and masks, and Dr. Seheult reviews a NEJM article showing respiratory droplet spread with and without a mask. There are many COVID-19 vaccine trials in the works and “RAPS” appears to be a nice website to track vaccine progress.
