New Brunswick officials provided an update on the province’s ongoing efforts to curb the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Jennifer Russell, New Brunswickās chief medical officer of health, said on Tuesday that there are two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province, bringing the total province-wide to 70. One case is travel-related and the other is a contact of another person with the virus, Dr. Russell told reporters. Also, during the press conference, Premier Blaine Higgs said the province is currently in the process of “enhancing” their pandemic operational plan. He added that the plan will provide additional details and guidance on how the province will respond to an increase in COVID-19 cases going forward. The number of U.S. cases have exploded and are growing by the day, with New York has become the epicenter of the U.S. outbreak.
During a Monday briefing with Toronto Public Health, Toronto Mayor John Tory warned that if people are caught defying city by-laws by continuing to use city parks and amenities closed due to COVID-19, they could be fined a minimum of $750. Tory said by-law officers and police will be conducted blitzes at public parks to ensure these rules are followed. In addition, the city has reported that as of 1 p.m. ET on March 30, there are a total of 591 confirmed COVID-19 cases, up 50 since Sunday, said Dr. Eileen de Villa, medical officer of health for the City of Toronto. Toronto Public Health confirmed on Monday that there has been an outbreak at the headquarters located at 277 Victoria Street. De Villa spoke on the outbreak, and also said that employees have been told to self-isolate from Toronto Public Health headquarters in the cityās downtown core after eight workers tested positive for the virus. Quebec officials announced 342 new cases of COVID-19 during Sundayās coronavirus update, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 2,840. Quebecās Premier, FranƧois Legault, told reporters that the number of deaths remains at 22. There are now 192 cases of coronavirus requiring hospitalization in Quebec as of Sunday, with 72 cases in intensive care units. Over 49,300 tests reported back negative in Quebec, with 6,300 cases under investigation. Premier Legault said a total of 58,000 people in the province have been tested as of Sunday. Seventeen new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Nova Scotia, bringing the provinceās total to 90. In a press conference Friday, the province said āmostā of the new cases are connected to travel or a known case. The 90 individuals affected range in age from under 10 to their mid-70s. Health officials say two are currently in hospital and three individuals have recovered and their cases of COVID-19 are considered resolved. Cases have been identified in all parts of the province. Ontario associate chief medical officer of health Dr. Barbara Yaffe announced three new deaths from COVID-19, two at a nursing home in the province, and a woman in her 80s in the Greater Toronto Area. Yaffe said there were approximately 133 new cases, bringing the total to 993 confirmed cases in the province. She added Ontario will likely see the number of resolved cases go up above 200 in the coming days. Ontario’s chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams also spoke about the recently announced usage of the province’s emergency alert system to tell people returning from travel they must isolate for 14 days. He said the decision to bring in the alert now was another way to remind people it’s still a measure in place.
