Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw provided a provincial update on the COVID-19 situation in the province on Thursday. Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll rose by three on Thursday, reaching 32 total fatalities from the disease. Twenty-two of those were in the Calgary zone. The three latest deaths were a woman in her 80s in the Calgary zone, a man in his 70s in the Edmonton zone, and a woman in her 60s in the Calgary zone, the doctor said. One death was linked to a continuing care centre in Calgary, but Alberta’s top doctor said the individual was not a resident of McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre in Calgary, where over a dozen deaths had previously been recorded. So far, 151 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in staff and residents in continuing care facilities. Alberta Health said the province had 1,451 confirmed cases. In the last 24 hours, there have been 28 new cases in Alberta. On Wednesday, the province released its full projections modelled in three scenarios: probable, elevated and extreme. Modelling is done to allow the government to anticipate and prepare for the demands on the province’s health-care system. Seventeen new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Nova Scotia, bringing the province’s total to 90. In a press conference Friday, the province said “most” of the new cases are connected to travel or a known case. The 90 individuals affected range in age from under 10 to their mid-70s. Health officials say two are currently in hospital and three individuals have recovered and their cases of COVID-19 are considered resolved. Cases have been identified in all parts of the province. To date, Nova Scotia has 3,649 negative test results and 90 confirmed cases. Jeong-yoon, hundreds more people were confirmed to have the virus. Yes, Jiyoon, South Korea confirmed 3-hundred 34 new cases on Thursday. This brings the total number in the country to one-thousand-five-hundred-95. Since the country’s first infection on January 20th, this is the highest number of infections in a single day. Most of the cases were in Daegu and the southeastern part of the country. 307 of the new cases are in Daegu and four each from the Gyeongsangbuk-do and Chungcheongnam-do provinces. South Korea’s central region also saw new cases. Six more in Seoul, three in Daejeon and four in Gyeonggi-do province. South Korea also reported its 13th death on Thursday. The 73-year old man from Daegu was one of the those related to the Shincheonji religious group. He was tested for the virus last Sunday and the results came back positive on Tuesday. He seemed to have no special symptoms other than fever and a cough… but started to have difficulty breathing on Thursday morning and died after CPR.
