People were left cleaning up in Ridgecrest, Calif. after a magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit southern California on Thursday, July 4, 2019. The quake left fissures through the Mojave Desert and damaged homes in the community, with some mobile homes even left tilting from their bases. People also felt the quake as far south as San Diego, as well as in Nevada and Arizona. There were also more than 80 aftershocks that hit in the hours following the quake. Buildings shook in Los Angeles after an earthquake hit a rural area between the city and Las Vegas. A 6.4 magnitude quake struck 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) southwest of Searles Valley, California, at 10:33 a.m. local time, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, or about 170 miles from LA. Los Angeles International Airport said there were no immediate reports of damage. San Bernardino County’s Fire District said in a tweet that it’s conducting an assessment of the region. “No injuries reported, however buildings and roads have sustained varying degrees of damage,” the agency said. BRITAIN should be “scared” about Tehran’s retaliation over the dramatic seizure of an Iranian supertanker by Royal Marines, a firebrand cleric warned today. Mohammad Ali Mousavi Jazayeri hinted the Islamic Republic may strike back over the capture of the giant vessel, impounded over fears it was illegally shipping oil to Syria. “I am openly saying that Britain should be scared of Iran’s retaliatory measures over the illegal seizure of the Iranian oil tanker,” said the cleric, a member of the powerful clerical body the Assembly of Experts.

Southern California is awaiting more aftershocks after two powerful earthquakes rocked the area this week. The 7.1 magnitude quake, which hit just after 8 p.m. local time, was felt from Los Angeles all the way to Nevada and caused injuries, sparked fires and closed roadways. The quake was centered in the Mojave Desert near the town of Ridgecrest, which is still recovering from a 6.4 magnitude quake on the Fourth of July. Carter Evans reports. The Golden State Warriors investor who shoved Kyle Lowry during Game 3 of the NBA Finals has been banned from attending NBA games for the next year. Mark Stevens has also been fined $500,000 by the league after he gave the Toronto Raptors guard a hard push and repeatedly swore at him. The NBA said Stevens has been banned effective immediately and he will also be barred from attending any Warriors team activities. Linda Fairstein, the longtime New York City prosecutor who oversaw the Central Park Five case, has resigned from at least two boards following backlash from the Netflix series “When They See Us” about the case. Since the series premiered on May 3, Fairstein has been criticized for her role observing the interrogation of five teens who then wrongfully convicted of raping a woman in 1989.   On Tuesday, the president of Vassar College posted a letter on its website saying that Linda Fairstein had resigned as a Board of Trustees member.   “I am told that Ms. Fairstein felt that, given the recent widespread debate over her role in the Central Park case, she believed that her continuing as a Board member would be harmful to Vassar,” Elizabeth H. Bradley wrote.    The victims-services agency, Safe Horizon, also confirmed Fairstein’s resignation on Tuesday, thanking her for “her decades of pioneering work on behalf of victims of sexual assault and abuse.”   Messages requesting comment from Fairstein were not immediately returned.   Fairstein was the top Manhattan sex crimes prosecutor when five teenagers were charged with the 1989 rape and beating of a female investment banker jogging in Central Park.   The attack became a national symbol of urban mayhem at a time when New York City’s murder rate was nearing its historical peak.   The teens said they were coerced into confessing their involvement in the attack.
