U.S. President Donald Trump and the U.S. coronavirus task force provided their daily update on the COVID-19 crisis in America on Saturday.
Trump said that “there will be a lot of death” throughout the country, and that the next two weeks will be crucial to combat the outbreak. He added that there were 10,000 ventilators stockpiled, and that 1,000 military personnel will be deployed to New York City to assist with the growing number of cases.
Trump also said that although the country will use “every single resource” to protect citizens amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he wants to “finish this war” and “open our country again.” He said that the U.S. “wasn’t meant for this” and that he does not want to be dealing with the outbreak for many more months.
Speaking about the controversy surrounding Minnesota-based medical supply firm 3M, Trump stated that the administration was “very disappointed” in the company and that “they should be taking care of” the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic. On Friday, 3M said Trump asked the company to stop selling N95 respirators to other countries and prioritize shipping medical supplies to the U.S.
As of April 4, the U.S. had over 300,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 8,000 deaths.
