Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Deputy Premier and Health Minister Christine Elliott, Children, Community and Social Services Minister Todd Smith, and Jamil Jivani, Ontario’s advocate for community opportunities, held a COVID-19 briefing on Thursday.
On Thursday, Ford said that while the number of cases in Ontario had remained at approximately the same level, he said it still appeared positive. The province is still looking at when they can begin the next stage of reopening and Ford said they would be opening up short term rentals for cottages and bed and breakfast businesses once it’s approved by the province’s health committee, but he hopes rentals will be allowed to reopen by next week.
Ford also announced during the briefing on Thursday a Council on Equality of Opportunity to advise the government on challenges facing youth, including how they can overcome social and economic barriers and achieve success. It would also advise what long-term actions can be taken to support youth during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Ontario reported 356 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and 45 new deaths. The total number of confirmed cases rose to 29,403
