Ontario’s chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams provided an update Saturday on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province and discussed the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic.
Williams reported that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ontario had surpassed 10,000 as 485 additional cases were reported Saturday morning. Thirty-six new deaths were announced, bringing the death toll in the province to 514.
He also stated that the Greater Toronto Area has over 56 per cent of the cases within the province, and that 108 long-term care homes in Ontario had COVID-19 outbreaks.
Williams added that the provincial government will be undertaking a survey over the next week in order to collect data on COVID-19 outbreaks within long-term care facilities. He said the survey would help assess “the ongoing outbreak management of long-term care” as well as provide indication on how their policies and interventions are working.
The number of confirmed cases in the province currently sits at 10,010.
