Manitoba’s chief public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin and Lanette Siragusa, spokesperson for Shared Health, provided an update on the government’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Wednesday.
Roussin reported two new cases of the virus, bringing the total to 257. In addition, he said that all symptomatic workers in essential industries are eligible for testing, as the province has expanded its COVID-19 testing capacity.
Siragusa said that 25 health care workers in the province have tested positive for the virus, with four new cases in the past week. She stated that 15 of the infected individuals have recovered and returned to work, and that over 780 staff were tested in the past seven days.
Roussin also said that “in the coming weeks,” the province will be looking at ways to ease the COVID-19 restrictions that have been put in place during the pandemic, which would include safely reopening some non-essential businesses.
He said that the current direction for residents is still to adhere to physical distancing strategies.
