Canadian health and government officials are expected to provide an update on the latest numbers of COVID-19 cases in the country and the federal government’s ongoing response to the pandemic.
Politicians returned to Ottawa over the weekend to debate the Liberal government’s emergency COVID-19 legislation which would allow companies to access a 75 percent wage subsidy for each employee.
Finance Minister Bill Morneau said on Saturday that the time frame for the payout of the wage subsidy for businesses has been moved up with the hope of occurring within two to five weeks, but are hoping to have the payout be closer to the shorter end of the time.
Government House Leader Pablo Rodriguez said all parties had come together to support the bill, but would not say what concessions may have been made to get other parties to vote in favour of the legislation.
