British Columbia’s provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix gave an update on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province and discussed the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic on Wednesday.
Henry reported 34 new cases of COVID-19, including single cases at two additional long-term care homes.
She also said the province’s coronavirus death toll now stands at 109 people, with more than half of them in long-term care or assisted-living facilities. Henry reported that four more residents of B.C.’s long-term care homes had died of COVID-19.
Large outbreaks at a pair of Metro Vancouver poultry processing plants also worsened Wednesday, now accounting for 92 cases. Single cases were identified at two new meat processing plants in the Lower Mainland earlier on Wednesday.
Of the province’s 2,087 total confirmed cases, more than 62 per cent have fully recovered, Henry said.
