Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, along with Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, and other provincial officials delivered an update on COVID-19 Wednesday and spoke about the ongoing work to protect public health.
Alberta confirmed five COVID-19-related fatalities, bringing the province’s total number of deaths from the virus to 66 as of April 22.
Kenney also said 70 Albertans are hospitalized with the virus, 18 of whom are in intensive care units.
Hinshaw reported that the province had identified its first COVID-19 case on a First Nation. She said Alberta Health Services is working with Sucker Creek First Nation to follow up on the case, and that the individual is currently self-isolating.
Hinshaw also reported an additional 306 cases, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the province to 3,401. Of these cases, 1,310 individuals have recovered.
