British Columbia provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 95 new cases of COVID-19 in the province on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases in B.C. to 1,948.
Henry said that 40 of the new 95 cases reported in B.C. are at or related to the Mission Federal Correctional facility, bringing the total number of inmates testing positive to 10 in addition to 12 staff members.
The doctor also reported two new COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, bringing the total number of deaths in the province to 100.
One of the new deaths reported Saturday is the first death in the province’s Indigenous community: a woman in the ‘Namgis First Nation in Alert Bay, a small community on Comorant Island where a cluster of cases has been confirmed.
