The Business Secretary has outlined plans to develop a vaccine as coronavirus-related deaths have increased to 34,636 in the UK.
In the daily coronavirus briefing, Alok Sharma said if trials of Oxford’s vaccine are successful, AstraZeneca will work to make 30 million doses available to the UK by September.
He said another £93m will be put into the building of a vaccine centre – now scheduled to open in summer 2021 – which would be able to produce enough vaccines for the entire UK population within six months.
